Healing Journeys is the compelling story of 16 ethnically diverse students whose lives have been deeply affected by hardship--from poverty and war to violence and racial injustice --but whose resilience, intellect, and compassion have led to an interest in science and medicine. Since 1987, over 300 students like these have come together to participate in an innovative mentoring program at Stanford University. As the students are immersed in the worlds of medicine and higher education, college becomes not only a reality but a stepping stone to making a difference in their communities.
